Virginia Tech Students
Free laptop diagnostic for Virginia Tech students
Hokie ID gets you the $25 diagnostic free, and a flat $20 gets your laptop picked up in Blacksburg and delivered back when it's fixed. Real technicians, 15 minutes from the Drillfield — nothing gets mailed away.
Free
Diagnostic with a student ID
Normally $25. Show a current Virginia Tech or Radford University ID and the diagnostic is free — we tell you exactly what's wrong and what it costs before anything is touched.
$20
Campus pickup & delivery
No car, no problem. Flat $20 round trip: we pick the device up from your dorm, apartment, or a spot on campus and bring it back when it's finished.
24–72 hrs
Back before your deadline
Most laptop repairs are done in one to three business days, and common screen and battery jobs are often same-day. Tell us your due date and we'll be straight with you.
Built around the semester, not the sales floor
A dead laptop in week ten is a different emergency than a dead laptop in July. We keep common Virginia Tech student parts — laptop screens, batteries, charge ports, SSDs, and RAM — on the shelf so the fix isn't waiting on shipping. You get a text when we diagnose it, a text with the exact price, and a text when it's ready. No membership, no upsell script, no "we'll ship it to the depot."
Pickup and delivery in Blacksburg
Plenty of students on campus don't have a car, and the bus with a broken desktop under your arm is nobody's idea of a plan. For a flat $20 round trip we come to you — residence halls, Foxridge, Hunters Ridge, Prices Fork, downtown Blacksburg, wherever you are — collect the device, and bring it back to the same spot when it's finished. Show the driver your student ID and the diagnostic is still free.
The repairs Hokies actually need
- · Cracked laptop screens — backpack casualties, often same-day.
- · Won't turn on or won't charge — charge ports, batteries, and board-level faults.
- · Data recovery — thesis drafts, lab data, and photos off a drive that won't mount.
- · Virus and malware cleanup — after a sketchy "free textbook PDF" download.
- · SSD and RAM upgrades — turn a four-year-old laptop into something usable for another two.
- · Console repair — HDMI ports, overheating, and controller drift.
How the student deal works
Step 1
Tell us what's wrong
Book online or call. Mention you're a Virginia Tech student and whether you want to drop it off or have us pick it up.
Step 2
Free diagnostic
We test the device in-shop and find the actual fault — no $25 fee with your student ID, no guessing, no parts cannon.
Step 3
You approve the price
We text or email the exact repair cost. Nothing happens until you say yes, and you can decline and pick it up at no charge.
Step 4
Get it back fast
Pick up in Christiansburg, or add $20 campus delivery and we bring it back to you with a 90-day warranty on parts and labor.
The fine print (there isn't much)
- · Show a current Virginia Tech or Radford University student ID at drop-off (or to the driver on a pickup).
- · Free diagnostic replaces our standard $25 diagnostic fee — you still approve any repair and its price before we start.
- · Campus pickup and delivery is a flat $20 round trip: we come to you, take the device to the shop, and bring it back when it's done.
- · Parts are billed at cost. Labor is quoted upfront — no surprise charges.
Student questions
Is the diagnostic really free for Virginia Tech students?+
Yes. Show a current Virginia Tech student ID at drop-off or to our driver and the standard $25 diagnostic is waived. You get a clear explanation of what's wrong and an exact repair price before we touch anything.
Can you pick my laptop up in Blacksburg?+
Yes — a flat $20 covers the round trip. We'll meet you at your dorm, an off-campus apartment on Prices Fork, Patrick Henry, or North Main, or anywhere convenient in Blacksburg, take the device to our Christiansburg shop, and deliver it back when it's fixed.
How far is Aura Tech from the Virginia Tech campus?+
About 15 minutes. We're at 782 New River Rd inside the Uptown Christiansburg mall, straight down 460 — beside Henebry's Jewelers and across from Bath & Body Works.
Can you get my laptop back before finals?+
Usually yes. Most repairs are done in one to three business days and stocked parts like screens and batteries are often same-day. Tell us your exam date when you book and we'll tell you honestly whether it's realistic.
My thesis is on a dead hard drive. Can you help?+
That's one of the most common student jobs we take. We recover files from failing hard drives, dead SSDs, and laptops that won't boot, and we tell you what's recoverable before you commit to anything.
Do you work on MacBooks and gaming PCs too?+
Yes — MacBook Air and Pro, iMacs, Windows laptops, custom gaming desktops, and consoles. The free student diagnostic applies to all of them.
